It’s hard to transition from a beautiful, fun-filled summer into the school year. The work piles up, the days you spend at the beach become shorter and shorter, and you begin to wear more and more layers of clothing due to the climate change.
Instead of getting upset, why not partake in some of the wonderful activities the beautiful season of autumn has to offer? Do it before the snow hits!
Apple Picking and Pumpkin Decorating
There are tons of small pumpkin patches and apple farms where you can go for a few hours and pick out the most delicious fruits and the plumpest pumpkins to decorate!
The end of September and the beginning to the middle of October are the most opportune time to do this, for the pumpkins will be big and round and certainly in season!
You and your friends can purchase some cheap paint at any craft store to make your pumpkins the scariest (or cutest) ones on your street, all while snacking on some juicy and delicious fruit!
If decorating isn’t your style, try carving the top of the pumpkin and having the seeds as a snack (after you cook them in the oven, of course!)
Halloween Parties and Costume Shopping
I love a good Halloween party. Ever since I was little, I have loved everything about this holiday—the costumes, the candy, the great laugh with friends!
My favorite thing to do as a child was to look for or create my Halloween costumes, and I still love doing it! At my university, students involved within the choir get together and throw a small Halloween bash, and to see the costumes that some of my friends come up with are hilarious!
So if you’re ever looking for something to do in October, gather your friends, plan a small party and shop and create costumes together!
Bike Rides, Walks, and Runs
If I have to choose one favorite thing about autumn, it would definitely be the cool weather, and the changing of colors throughout the world.
There is nothing I love more than taking a stroll through a park during the middle of the day, watching the yellow, orange, and red leaves fall softly to the ground. Not only is the scenery beautiful, but also it’s a great way to stay in shape.
If you don’t like going to the gym, then walking, running, and riding your bike outside is a great way to stay healthy. You might as well do it outside in the gorgeous fall weather.
September and October are the months right before the holiday season begins.
Life can get really hectic—from the homework load, to jobs, internships, and class—and sometimes, you just want to go out and have a good time. But, you could also take a few hours out of your day to volunteer for a project.
You could help out at a local parish that organizes Thanksgiving Day food distribution, where people will purchase a turkey and a few canned goods for a family who cannot afford these, and the volunteers will wrap it all up and place it into a car for delivery.
Maybe you can even help rake leaves on someone’s lawn. There are a ton of opportunities out there—all you have to do is look for them!
These are only a few suggestions of fall festivities you and your friends can participate in, but don’t stop here! Create your own ideas, and research on the Internet to see what other activities you can do.
