Let’s be honest here, as much as we like to look good no matter what, there are always days in college when you just want to roll out of bed in your PJs or oversized sweatpants and sit in class feeling as comfy as you can. If you’re going to be sitting at a desk in the library all day doing work, you don’t want to have to worry about being uncomfortable in your clothes.
But have no fear! Thanks to the cooler weather that comes with the fall season, more forgiving and cozy clothes are right on trend. Here are a few ways to look super cute and feel comfy when you’re out and about on campus.
Chunky and oversized sweaters
These kinds of sweaters are probably my all-time favorite clothing items. There are so many cool ways to wear them. You can find sweaters that are a little more glamorous with embellishments or sequins, if that’s the look you’re going for. If you want to show your up-to-date trendy side, look for a big sweater that has cutouts or a fun texture. If you prefer an edgy or grungy look, go for a sweater that is a bit deconstructed.
Of course, there are always classic sweaters with stripes or argyle patterns that anyone can rock. Big sweaters definitely don’t have to look sloppy. Pair it with a slim bottom and some cool boots, and an oversized sweaters can be a very chic way to feel warm and cozy in class or at the library.
Leggings as pants
I’m just gonna say it: Sometimes pants are overrated. Putting on jeans in the morning can be a hassle if they’ve just been washed and are feeling a little snug. If you’re spending a lot of your day sitting it can get uncomfortable. Now I’m going to give some fashion advice that is usually frowned upon…it can be okay to wear leggings as pants.
They are comfier than stiff denim, and there ARE ways to do it right. For this to work though, you have to abide by two important rules: your shirt MUST cover your butt and your leggings must fit you. Leggings are a great option to wear with one of the aforementioned oversized sweaters.
As long as your sweater is big enough to accommodate such a slim-fitting bottom, you’re in the clear. Also, make sure your leggings are not cutting into you at the waistband. Too-tight leggings are decidedly uncomfortable. If you can manage to follow those rules, feel free to wear leggings to class as much as you want.
One of my other favorite ways to be cozy and cool at the same time is to wear scarves. They can amp up any simple outfit, and there are so many kinds of scarves out there. Circle or infinity scarves are really cool these days, and they’re so easy to wear. Scarves come in all different sizes and styles, so you can pick and choose based on the weather out.
If it’s just a tad chilly, go for a lighter scarf; these are meant to be worn for fashion. If it’s freezing outside, there are also some really great heavy, warm scarves. It’s like having a pillow around your neck at all times and you look awesome. There is nothing better.
Hopefully these tips help make class and studying a bit more bearable. You really don’t have to choose to be comfy or trendy; you can do both!
