Stress Relievers

Between classes, homework, part time jobs and attempting to have a social life, we can easily become overwhelmed and incredibly stressed out. Remember, that it’s important to have some down-time every week and to not spread yourself too thin over activities.

It’s not uncommon for stress to bring you down at times, especially for upperclassmen who are getting closer and closer to graduation. So here are some simple tips to help you relieve stress.

Take a night off.
It doesn’t need to be a whole weekend or even a whole day. When all of your friends are going out on a Friday night, you should hang back and have the night to yourself. Eat dinner and watch a movie at your own pace and go to sleep early.

Having the time to relax will really help you later on in the week when professors begin piling on assignments. One night off every once in a while is all you need.

Get up and work out.
If you’re not the type of person that can tolerate sitting still for a moment, go to the gym. You can run as hard and fast as you can, to blow off steam, or take a class at your campus gym. Yoga is a great stress reliever and kickboxing will help you kick and punch out your frustration.

Take a nap.
Sometimes we feel stressed and overworked because we’re not getting enough sleep. Most people don’t realize how beneficial sleep is to our physical and mental health. It allows our cells to restore themselves and allows our brain to recharge overnight.

Without proper rest, you’ll feel weak until you get the sleep you need. Taking a decent nap and getting the rest your body needs, will help you take on the challenges that college life demands.

Scream and cry.
We’re only human and it’s natural to let our emotions to get the best of us. Sometimes a good loud scream or an intense cry can make you feel better afterwards. Stress comes from an accumulation of emotions that we keep bottled up inside of ourselves. If you find a way to let it all out, then you’ll feel much better afterwards.

At the end of the day, everyone reacts differently to stressful situations. Take the time to feel out the methods that help you relax and relieve any stress in your life.
