Although living in a dorm is very exciting and fun, there are times when dorm life, or living on campus in general, for that matter, can get ‘old.’ When the weather gets mucky and you’ve been cooped up in your room for an extended period of time, it is no surprise that you want to just get out of there! It is very important to find yourself a change of atmosphere every once a while so that the repetitive lifestyle of college does not drive you insane. Finding yourself new places to go or partaking in new activities will even make you appreciate your dorm more when you return from your very busy day.
If you go to school by a nice town or city it is always a great idea to find unique places to dine in. People often reject this idea for fear of wasting money, since they have already paid for a meal plan. However, if you’re really starting to feel like your life has become monotonous, you should just go for it! Going to dinner is a great way to get away from the repetitive food in the cafeteria and offers different scenery than usual.
Another plan is to simply explore the world outside your campus! Get a couple of friends together, take the train or bus or whatever you can into a nearby city, and go on an adventure! Find out what the greatest hangouts are or if there are any historical sights to see. Every place has a story—it’s up to you to figure out what it is. This is a very exhilarating idea that will be sure to give you the changed environment you seek.
Volunteering is also a great way to go out every so often. Join your school’s latest volunteer projects. You are bound to be out and about, doing different things in different places, as opposed to being confined in your own room. Aside from taking you away from your monotonous lifestyle, volunteering will also make you feel good about yourself for giving back to others. The results of taking on a volunteer job are nothing less than positive!
If you’re really starting to feel like you need a change of atmosphere you should consider these ideas for yourself. There is a plethora of activities to choose from around any college campus that will take you to places you never thought you would go. Even if you are not up for committing to a project such as volunteering, that is no reason to stop yourself from trying to explore the world around you. You’ll find yourself outside of your dorm and campus so often that you’ll appreciate your time in your room so much more when you’ve returned!
